First, pick the issue that most concerns you.
Aids/HIV, Global Warming, Urban Sprawl, Crime, Abortion, Unrest, Hunger, Poverty, Deforestation, Pollution, Species Extinction, War, Euthanasia, Traffic Grid Lock, Terrorism, Energy Crisis, Climate Change, Depletion of Resources, Starvation, Disease, Pestilence, Pandemics, Waste Disposal,
the Homeless, Intolerance, the Hole in the Ozone Layer, Non-Native Invasive Species, Genocide,
Save the Whales, the annual Baby Seal Hunt, the Disappearing Rainforests, Infanticide,
Elder Abuse and Neglect, Corruption, the Increasing disparity between the Rich and the Poor,
Illegal Immigration, Human Trafficking, Modern Day Slavery, Over Fishing,
Commercial or Scientific Animal Testing, Prison Overcrowding, Animal Rights
(If I've missed anything please let me know.)
Next, ask yourself this question: If the world population were to double, would your concern get worse, get better or stay the same?
The point of this exercise is this: I contend that all of the above "problems" with the world are not problems but are symptoms of the over lying cause, the presence of humans.
The one "issue" that is almost never brought up is this. At what point do we have enough people living on this planet? Do we wait until you can drive from Des Moines to Chicago and never see a break in the scenery? Just mile after mile of uninterrupted cookie-cutter communities.
If we wait long enough Mother Nature will (and does) take care of the problem for us and
"cull the herd".
I know this area can be very politically incorrect because it involves issues such as
reproductive rights.
I used to be an "ecologist/environmentalist". (I still try to do my part) I went to the fairs, wore buttons and read the literature but then I started to realize something. All the bad stuff happening in the World had one thing in common. It's caused by people. So wouldn't it be easier to control or eliminate these problems if we had fewer people adding to them not more?
I'm not advocating anything like forced birth control, (suggesting birth control at least would be a start)but the issue of over population needs to be brought to the forefront. Save all the trees you can,
but if you keep adding more and more people you're just fighting a loosing battle.
Do you think we can have an unlimited number of people and maintain a pristine enviorment?
